    Hi,

I came across this article about a recent
renovation of a football stadium. The fans
demanded the same quality as the newly renovated section addition.

    Please click on site below.
    Why the EV CD horns??

    Excerpt from Contractor.

Bigger and better The new sound reinforcement system at UT is impressive in both size and capacity. One of the major concerns was low-frequency directivity within the cluster. Ledo evaluated several possible low-frequency cabinets, and after careful acoustical evaluation, decided to use Altec Lansing's massive, horn-loaded bass cabinets. Sixteen Altec Lansing 817B cabinets were customized and outfitted with two 515-G-series woofers, fiber-glass coated and fitted with weatherproof grilles. Designed to perform in venues where directivity control at low frequencies is critical, these horn-loaded systems provide performance advantages not found in ordinary bass systems.

    When I think of "massive, horn-loaded bass cabinets" from Altec, I DON'T think of 817's - I think of 210's or 211's.

When I re-did the sound system in Razorback Stadium (since been messed with), the previous Sound Contractor had pulled the 210's and installed 817's with 3156's in them. It took FOUR 817's to do what TWO 210's did before!

Arrayed 210's - sounds like a neat idea!

For sure the 817 are not that massive. They were relatively to what the old sound system in place was and the students complained about.

You should read the entire article ,It's good. For once the custommer in this case voiced their opinions in favor of having the Altec 817. And not the other way around. Management imposing their taste
3/4 of that 100,000 seat stadium called
    to complain.

It takes a while for the html to download. Good peace of marketing tool for Altec.

I'm impressed with arraying 210 in a stadium . It must have been a sight to see and hear. The Wood Stock concert used Arrayed Woodstock Bins which look like the 211 cabs. See Rock Concert Thread.

That WAS the late "90's remember. EV/Telex was in the process of shutting down Altec. It may be that 299's and Altec horns just were not available.

We'll probably never know why the installer decided to use that particular equipment. Quite possibly financial reasons.

Here is another installation. Looks like Altec CLUSTER A-10's with Altec horns.

Those HF drivers look kind of flat to be Altec, to me. I'm thinking EV.

Your probably right. This contractor from TN used the EV horns on several projects mixed with Altec Woofers.

But the cluster design is ALTEC signature.Altec technicians would have helped for a set up like these.

Thats what the article says . Look first post and read the article.

Don't think the horns are Altec either. The top ones have horizontal diffraction slots, and the lower ones have an outer structural throat rib.
